Furaveri Maldives

Honest review

A resort that bet on an authentic island experience rather than gloss — and it paid off.

The island itself, on Raa Atoll, is magnificent: make sure to walk its coral-sand paths past coconut palms and banyan trees. Beyond the natural flora there are plenty of planted species, including several varieties of orchid. The interiors draw on island traditions, and the design plays on the image of a traditional Maldivian boat.

The food also leans towards local traditions, yet the restaurants carry enough dishes for any gastronomic request. The main restaurant regularly holds themed dinners, and their variety is genuinely impressive; in the evenings — traditional dances and Boduberu performances.

After dinner comes a small ritual: reef sharks and rays are often fed by the jetty, and anyone can join in.

The sea is the main argument: the house reef is densely populated, the snorkelling spots are just 30 metres from shore, and a certified diving school runs trips to nearby dive sites. A resort for families and couples who care about the spirit of the Maldives, not just a beautiful villa.
