Honest review
If you want Oman without long transfers, this is it: Kempinski Hotel Muscat is just 10 minutes from the international airport, with the popular sights within walking distance.
A practical pointer when choosing a room: there are 310 of them, and every one faces either the city or the beach — the resort occupies a stretch of coastline more than six kilometres long. Standard rooms mean marble bathrooms and views over Muscat; suites add a separate living room, a dining area, high ceilings and a terrace. Families and groups of friends should go straight to the villas and apartments.
Golfers get a treat of their own: the country's only 18-hole course, designed by Greg Norman, is close by. Around the resort are a yacht marina, local restaurants and authentic little shops.
Within the resort itself — four restaurants and interiors where contemporary style is woven through with traditional Arabian touches.
A separate plus for celebrations and business events: more than 3,000 m² of flexible function space and a pillar-free ballroom holding up to 700 guests. It works for a holiday, a wedding and a business trip alike.
