Honest review
Choosing a base for a sightseeing trip to Muscat, settle one question first: does it suit you that there is no alcohol and no shisha on the premises. If yes — Avani Muscat is a very good base.
The location is central: forts, mosques and souqs are within walking distance; the dancing fountains are close by, and a short drive brings you to the coast. One obligatory stop is the aquarium in Seeb, the largest in the Middle East: more than 30,000 marine animals and over 200 species of fish.
Advice on rooms: for a trip longer than a few days take an apartment with a fully equipped kitchenette; for a short stay a standard room or a suite is enough.
After the walking — the courtyard pool with its bar and light snacks, dinner in the restaurant serving Omani dishes alongside international cooking, an evening on the lounge patio.
An option for independent, curious travellers; for classic beach holidays, look elsewhere.
