Honest review
When choosing a base in Muscat, do the logistics first: Royal Tulip stands on the Arabian Sea coast, 15 minutes’ drive from the airport and very close to the centre. For a short trip around Oman that is the deciding plus: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Mutrah souq and the National Museum of Oman are all at hand.
Inside are 260 rooms and suites finished with marble, rich fabrics and patterns. The practical details: a minibar with soft drinks is already included in the rate, room service runs around the clock, and Wi-Fi and breakfast in the room are in place.
In the evening — an international buffet or à la carte, then coffee and pastries in the café. Start the morning at the outdoor pool: the terrace overlooking the whole of Muscat is worth it. For the sporty, there is a spa and a gym with the newest equipment on the top floor.
Bear the character of the place in mind: conferences, gala dinners and ballroom weddings are held here, so this is a city story for sightseeing Oman rather than a secluded beach hideaway.
Recommended for those who come to see the capital, not to lie by the water.
