Planning W Maldives, check your dates against the renovation: the resort reopens on 1 March after a top-to-bottom refresh of every zone — beach and water villas, restaurants, pools and public spaces. Going soon after the opening is a chance to catch everything in fresh-out-of-the-box condition.
The villa choice is between beach and water; both lines were part of the renovation, so decide by the style of holiday you want, not by a category's age.
Divers should give it a separate look: the island has a fully equipped diving and water-sports centre, plenty of beautiful dive sites lie nearby, and the island has a house reef.
Evenings are W's signature territory: the 15Below club with guest DJs from around the world and parties of European standard. Anyone after absolute quiet should factor that in from the start.
For honeymooners there is an exclusive: an underwater ceremony and dinner on an uninhabited island. All told, this is the stylish Maldives with a pulse — for couples, divers and groups of friends.
