One of the best answers to the request for 'real Maldives without overpaying': a lush, green, natural island in South Ari with an excellent house reef and a good beach.
The first thing to know when planning: from 1 May to 15 November 2026 the resort is closed for renovation — the infrastructure is being updated, with a promise to keep the island's character. Build your travel dates around that window.
Now the categories. Families with preschoolers and younger schoolchildren are in their element here — the reef right off the island turns a first snorkel into the trip's defining memory. Divers do well to book the Garden Rooms — that is what the European guests do, all the more so with a whale shark spot nearby. A large family or group will suit the Adjoining Beach Villas — including if you travel with a nanny.
The food in the main restaurant is good and varied, and the spa is run by Duniye Spa, whose rituals are consistently first-rate. A welcome bonus — Russian-speaking staff at reception.
Transfer: 25 minutes by seaplane from Velana (82 km), landing on a floating platform, then another 5 minutes by boat. Who it suits: repeat visitors, families and anyone who values calm — there is no crowd even at full occupancy.
