Nakai Alimatha Resort

Honest review

Nakai Alimatha Resort lies in Vaavu Atoll, the least populated atoll in the Maldives. The near absence of people has kept the snow-white beaches and dense forests virtually untouched, which is why the resorts on these islands are famed for their beauty. All the wooden furniture is made on the island itself — in the rooms, the restaurant tabletops and salt cellars, the pieces in the souvenir boutique. In the rooms and restaurants, the water is bottled on site in handsome glass bottles.

One of the main tourist pastimes in these parts is fishing, especially for those chasing thrills and dreaming of a big trophy. In the local waters you can land the rare blue marlin, tuna and other giants.

Vaavu is a true paradise for divers. The atoll's surroundings hold many untouched coral reefs, world-class dive spots and unique marine reserves.

The hotel also suits families with children, who will find plenty of activities and entertainment at the kids' club.

By the water villa jetty there is a small bar, a jacuzzi and a large pool, beautifully lit in the evening. During my stay the bar was open only in the daytime.

“Stylish and ‘classically Maldivian’. Every detail you see here is handmade from natural materials right here in the Maldives. The atmosphere is wonderful — homely and heartfelt. It feels as if you have arrived at an Italian agriturismo, only in the Maldives. The grounds are spotless: from early morning the staff are busy as bees all over the island, cleaning and washing everything. The resort has been renovated: the rooms are fresh and comfortable; there is little privacy, but the greenery and the separate beach zones are laid out very cleverly. For first-timers in the Maldives, ALIMATHÀ is a perfect fit — it looks straight out of a picture! A wonderfully green resort where not a single tree or bush has been cut down in 27 years! Even during construction everything is preserved, with stylish solutions built around them. The resort's owners are Italian, and there are many returning guests here. We even met a young woman who practically grew up at the hotel, flying in with her parents 14 years in a row.”
