A glamorous resort for admirers of contemporary art — and at the same time one of the most consistent green projects in the Maldives.
There is an art studio supporting local makers, artists come from around the world, and the calendar runs to interactive events, culinary experiments and excursions. Neither couples nor families with children will be bored, and honeymooners get exactly the seclusion people fly to the Maldives for.
The reef work deserves separate respect. In 2016 natural disasters destroyed up to 85% of the coral population; Joali grows new corals in a mid-water nursery for 9–12 months and replants them — choosing heat-resistant species so the reef does not die again.
Logistics: Muravandhoo island in the north of Raa Atoll, 170 km from Male airport; the shared seaplane takes 40 minutes. Flights run from 06:00 to 16:00 — pick an international arrival in the first half of the day; the JOALI seaplane lounge is free for you until 21:00.
