Honest review
The main thing to understand about Hondaafushi in advance is the distance: 291 km from Velana International Airport, in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, one of the most untouched in the Maldives. That is the price of seclusion — and judging by what awaits you here, an honest one.
The underwater world is the strong suit: the island has its own house reef with rich marine life, so pack a mask and snorkel without fail. The far corners of the island are best explored on a boat excursion.
The accommodation makes no claim to palace grandeur: spacious rooms with simple design, air conditioning, a minibar, a private terrace and ocean views — comfort without excess gloss.
The body is looked after by a spa in the jungle — an oasis at the very centre of the island with Balinese and international treatments. The mood is set by a free-form pool at the water's edge with its own bar, dinners under the stars, board games for family evenings, volleyball and billiards.
Who should come: couples and families who care more about quiet and the reef than about being close to Male.
