A democratic resort for a quiet holiday — and a steady fixture in the sales top. The formula is simple: unfussy rooms, a good house reef, a comfortable beach and a very pleasant price. At one time the island was so popular with Italian guests that getting in was practically impossible.
The beach is snow-white, the sand is of good quality, the lagoon is wide, with an easy entry into the water and no corals. The house reef frames the whole island and comes in close — especially handy for water-villa guests: mask on, and off you swim. On the southern side, by the main bar, breakwaters protect the beach from erosion.
There are only 122 rooms and just two types: Standard Room (96) and Water Bungalow (26) — the choice comes down to 'on land or over water'. The main restaurant seats 280 and runs as a buffet with themed evenings.
An honest caveat: there is no kids' club and no babysitting, so bring children only if they never stray from your side. Otherwise the resort suits a broad audience: couples, families, anyone who wants to meditate on a water villa or swim with a mask. Transfer — 45 minutes by speedboat from Male airport.
