Honest review
A private island in its purest form: North Island is a secluded resort 30 km from Mahe, reached by helicopter (about 15 minutes) or private yacht. The transfer alone sets the tone for the whole holiday.
There is no buffet here at all — the chef cooks each dish personally for each guest. The villas are built from natural materials, set far apart, and read as a continuation of the island landscape; each has a personal manager who resolves any question or wish.
And the island is not a stage set of luxury but a working nature reserve. The Noah's Ark project has helped preserve rare giant tortoises and many endangered species of plants and birds; the island has its own water-recycling and desalination station.
To do: the spa, the gym, land and water sports, and walking trails of varying length and difficulty. For couples they will arrange a private picnic on the beach, a sunset cruise on the Indian Ocean and a tasting with the sommelier in the wine cellar.
This is an option for the most discerning: a honeymoon, a landmark anniversary, a trip where privacy is the main currency.
