Indonesia's best countryside resort of 2022 according to Travel + Leisure — and deservedly so.
The logistics: an hour's drive from Denpasar airport, 15 minutes to Ubud — the island's spiritual centre, 30 minutes to the Tegalalang rice terraces, just over an hour to the Gunung Batur volcano. For a route through central Bali the location is remarkably convenient.
Choose your accommodation deliberately. The 18 suites are in the main building, next to the kids' club and playground — with children, stay here. The 42 villas sit lower down the slope and are designed for maximum seclusion: a private pool, an open-air living room, a tropical shower, teak and handmade carpets by Balinese craftsmen.
Shared between everyone — a yoga pavilion, an impressive two-level pool and busy evenings: culinary master classes, themed dinners, a romantic dinner on the round rooftop terrace.
To be honest: there is no sea here — only the Ayung river, rice terraces and jungle. If you want both, Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay is 40 km away — an easy way to split the holiday between two resorts.
