Bali for those who like motion: Discovery Kartika Plaza stands on the Tuban coast in Kuta — restaurants, cafés and the large Discovery Kuta shopping centre nearby, with the Waterbom waterpark, the only one on the island, right opposite.
The grounds are spacious and green, with a panoramic ocean view; a pedestrian promenade runs between the resort and the beach, and the way down to the water is a small stone slope.
Honestly about the ocean: in this part of the island it can be quite rough — tides and waves. Joy for surfers, fine for adult swimmers, but children will find it harder to get into the water. Their element here is the pool, with a decorative waterfall, a jacuzzi and a panorama of the coast.
There is plenty to do on the grounds: a tennis court, beach volleyball, billiards, entertainment programmes for adults and children, a disco.
The logistics are excellent: 5 km from Ngurah Rai airport, a transfer of about 10 minutes — convenient at both the start and the end of a Bali itinerary.
Who it suits: active travellers and surfers who want lively Kuta within walking distance.
