Honest review
If the holiday is meant to reset you rather than park you on a sun lounger, Como Shambhala Estate is one of the most precise addresses in Bali: a wellness estate in the jungle by the sacred Ayung River.
Decide on your goal in advance — the tools here are ready-made for it: detox programmes, dietary menus, food for raw-foodists, vegetarians and keto followers. The produce is largely their own: fish from the estate's pond, vegetables from its garden.
There is no shortage of movement either: yoga, Pilates, meditation, tennis, cycling, and rafting on the Ayung adds adrenaline for those who find calm practices too tame.
Accommodation follows a simple logic: residences opening onto the garden as the snug base format, two-storey suites for space, villas with a private hydromassage pool on the terrace for full seclusion. There are 30 rooms in all, each with timber finishes and contemporary design.
Set separate time aside for the spa: Ayurveda, acupuncture, hydrotherapy in a heated pool — treatments in both local and European traditions. A format for those who want to come home a different person.
