The Chedi Muscat

Honest review

Practical advice first: at The Chedi Muscat it is worth looking at the club rooms and suites — they come with a club lounge, an airport transfer by private limousine, breakfast and cocktails.

The resort itself is a garden oasis between the Al Hajar mountains and the Gulf of Oman: 158 rooms and villas of six types in Omani style. The choice comes down to high ceilings and panoramic windows facing Muscat — or large terraces with a panorama of the bay and the mountains.

Evenings are worth planning around too: six restaurants and two lounges, with cuisine ranging from Middle Eastern and Mediterranean to South-East Asian. Dinner under the stars with a view of the bay in one, traditional Arabic shisha in another, breakfast by the pool in a third — the venues are deliberately different in character.

The format is universal: it works equally well for a holiday away from the bustle and for a business trip to Oman's capital.

For seasoned travellers who want both culture and quiet in Muscat.
