If your trip to Muscat is a working one, start your shortlist with Al Seeb: the Oman convention centre, the exhibition complex, the Knowledge Oasis technology park, the Rusayl industrial estate and Sultan Qaboos University are all in the neighbourhood, and the city centre is three minutes away.
Take a standard room with a pool view: the rooms here are spacious, with a sitting area, a work zone, free Wi-Fi and a bathroom with a shower; the inventory runs to 184 rooms, suites included. Choosing your floor is an available option — use it.
An evening without a car: the Magic Planet entertainment centre is close by, and for tradition there is Muttrah Souk, where you haggle for frankincense and gold and then stroll the corniche.
Within the resort — an outdoor pool with snacks and freshly squeezed juices, an updated fitness centre with cardio and strength machines, a sauna. Breakfast is a buffet in the main restaurant, Omani coffee is served in the lobby lounge, and the biryani is at Omede.
The verdict: a convenient, predictable city base for business trips and for getting to know Oman's capital.
