Honest review
A resort whose main attraction is not the pool or the spa but the house reef. Helengeli island, in the north-east of North Male Atoll, is a real find for snorkellers and divers: the reef is home to bright fish, giant turtles, lobsters and even reef sharks.
Getting there is simple: 50 minutes by boat from Male airport — no seaplanes, no connections.
After its reconstruction the island became noticeably bigger and more comfortable, and now combines its original tropical charm with modern style — a format that suits very different travellers.
A tip on choosing a villa: for sunrises, take the Beach Villas; the terraces of the other categories face the sunsets — decide in advance which time of day matters more to you.
After the dives — ELENA SPA, with treatments to bring body and soul back into balance. Who it is for: above all those who come to the Maldives for the underwater world, not the social scene.
