Jumeirah Burj Al Arab Dubai

Honest review

Before booking Burj Al Arab, answer honestly why you want it — and if the answer is 'for the experience itself', everything falls into place. The sail-shaped building stands on an artificial island 280 metres offshore, reached by a bridge, and it remains an inseparable part of modern Dubai's image.

On the suites themselves: the living room and bedroom sit on two levels, with views of Palm Jumeirah from both. The main bathroom has a full-size jacuzzi bath and a separate tropical shower.

The small things are raised to a system: curtains, lighting, music and televisions are remote-controlled; there are 9 kinds of pillows, quilted down duvets, Egyptian cotton linen. You sleep accordingly.

One piece of advice: set aside time simply for the suite — a rare case where the interior genuinely competes with the city for your attention. A format for special occasions and collectors of landmark places.
