A practical find for a Sri Lanka itinerary: Beacon Beach stands on the beach in Negombo, 9.1 km from Bandaranaike Airport — a convenient first or last night of the trip.
But it would be unfair to reduce it to transit: this is an intimate resort of 44 rooms with a panoramic sea view, living at a homely pace. The rooms have balconies, sitting areas, coffee machines with free tea and coffee, air conditioning, round-the-clock service. Advice: ask for an ocean-view category — some rooms look onto the city streets.
The infrastructure is compact but complete: two restaurants, an outdoor pool, a sun terrace, a barbecue area and a spa with traditional Sri Lankan treatments.
Negombo is a lively coastal town: the Dutch fort, the Hamilton Canal, the noisy fish market. The resort can arrange surfing, diving and fishing. The town centre is 3 km away, Negombo Beach Park 1.5 km.
Who it suits: those assembling a longer route around the island, and lovers of a quiet beach holiday in an intimate format.
