Honest review
A resort for those willing to go the extra distance for untouched Maldives: Havodda island lies in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, 400 km from Velana International Airport, practically on the equator.
And the journey pays off. The reef teems with life of its own: turtles, octopuses, sharks, dolphins, fish in riotous colours — the flora and fauna in this part of the Maldives are close to untouched. A white-sand beach rings the island, and the lagoon is very wide, with a gradual entry into the water — no coral fragments underfoot.
Being near the equator brings one more trump card: the climate stays dry all year round, with no rainy season even in summer, when cyclones can reach other parts of the Maldives.
The service is high and human: the resort's director shoots underwater footage himself, and the chef keeps inventing new dishes, drawing on modern creative street food without forgetting lactose-free and vegetarian options. Children are as welcome here as adults, the villa interiors are thought through beautifully — and from your first step on the island it feels like home.
An honest caveat: because of the distance there is no seaplane transfer, and the resort has no lounge of its own at the airport yet — plan the logistics in advance. Who it suits: families, couples and anyone who wants the 'real' Maldives with no compromise on the reef.
