The island and hotel are owned by a Czech couple, Jiri and Radka Smejc, who once fell in love with the Maldives at first sight and decided to buy an island, build a hotel on it and pour into it their entire vision of the ideal island holiday. They succeeded in everything: today guests find a private atmosphere and untouched nature, beautifully paired with stylish design and first-class service.
Velaa Private Island owes its name to the sea turtles that have inhabited the island and its surroundings for many hundreds of years. From a bird's-eye view the overwater villas resemble a turtle's head, while the island itself forms its body. The colors and patterns of the turtle shell are echoed in the interior details.
The island's spa deserves special attention: guests can have an individual, comprehensive program of treatments designed for the entire length of their stay.
The hotel also offers a fantastic variety of water sports, with the latest professional equipment from flyboards to flying water bikes.
