Three islands instead of one: after its rebranding Olhuveli has changed a great deal and is now linked by footbridges to two neighbouring islands, each carrying its own part of the resort with its own restaurants, bars and infrastructure.
The main island remains the heart: most of the entertainment, the main reception and the larger share of villas are here, and it takes guests of any age — a family format in the full sense.
The island has a temperament: from June to October fairly strong winds blow through the lagoon, and the resort has turned that into an asset, becoming a kitesurfing mecca. One of the few certified kitesurfing schools in the Maldives works here, alongside a modern watersports centre.
There is no abundance of coral underwater, yet the snorkelling still delivers: marine life is very rich, with turtles and rays met often.
For unwinding there are three spa centres: varied relaxation massages, open-air flower baths, cosmetic treatments. South Male Atoll, 38.4 km from Velana airport. For families and the active — one of the atoll's most logical choices.
