Honest review
A resort at the edge of the map: South Palm stands on the southernmost tip of the Maldives, on Addu Atoll, and getting here means crossing the equator — 550 km from Malé airport, a journey that is a small adventure in itself.
The island was built very recently, so the villas and infrastructure are in immaculate condition. The scenarios are thought through for different guests: a kids' club with a packed programme for families; secluded villas, wedding ceremonies and private romantic dinners for couples.
But the main magnet is the sea. Addu is a year-round home to dolphins, whales and mantas, with rich marine fauna and bright, healthy coral reefs; for snorkellers and divers that is a serious argument.
There's an unexpected bonus too: the atoll was once a British RAF base, and unique buildings from the colonial era survive — plenty for lovers of history and excursions. In the evenings there are national Maldivian performances and live bands.
Who it's for: divers, families and anyone ready for the long journey to the untouched south.
