Romance and calm — the two words that describe this resort with its national atmosphere on North Male Atoll most precisely: a small island, a snug mood, a tended green territory.
The greenery is not decoration: several times a week a botanist leads a walk around the island and talks about the local flora, there is an orchid garden and a garden for honeymooners with heart-shaped photo spots. Name plaques are made to order and hung on a tree in the garden — a touching tradition for couples.
The lagoon is excellent: a sandy entry with no coral chips mixed in, and the water is deep enough for proper swimming. There is no house reef, and that is an honest minus, but a morning snorkelling-safari excursion is included in the price of the stay, and the resort has six boats of its own.
The spa is set on a separate island joined to the main one by a bridge — seclusion guaranteed.
It is convenient with children too: a free mini-club for ages 4 to 12; little ones under 4 can be left in the care of one of the adults or with a nanny for an extra charge.
Understand the format: there is no entertainment programme here. This is a resort for those seeking quiet — honeymooners first of all; children do well here, but they will spend most of their time with their parents and in the lagoon.
