Honest review
The Niva Velassaru hotel is ideal for those who do not want extra flights within the Maldives. A 5-star property with a solid history and reputation lies just 25 minutes from the airport by speedboat. The wide range of meal plans is another of the hotel's advantages. Some guests deliberately look for half board or breakfast only, which is becoming ever harder to find in the Maldives. All inclusive here has its particularities: different meals are served in different restaurants on the island, letting you visit each restaurant more than once. A calm hotel with spacious renovated villas, deep bathtubs, and good pools. Take note of the Water Suite — there is only one on the island; if you are looking for a fine option for honeymooners or a couple celebrating an anniversary in style, this is it: butler service is included, and children are not permitted.
'What a wide beach this is! That is the first thought that comes to mind as you approach the NIVA VELASSARU resort. And the second — what dining! The beach restaurant is such that you want to try everything at once, especially if you love seafood. Dishes of salmon, tuna, prawns, and other delicacies of maritime cuisine overflow here. I would unequivocally recommend this hotel for a romantic holiday for guests who want the classic Maldives concept. There is no hi-tech here; everything is done in a restrained, classic style, but tastefully and in excellent condition.'
The resort is located on Velassaru Island, South Male Atoll, 12 km from Velana International Airport (Male). The hotel can be reached by speedboat.
The hotel has an excellent beach, wider in places (near the jetty, the restaurants, reception, and the pool) – the whole southeastern side of the island. The sand is perfect, powder-fine, with no shell fragments at all, and the entry into the water is good and gradual.
The beach rings the entire island. There are no breakwaters here. On the northeastern side many of the hotel's boats are moored – this may bring its own nuances for swimming.
