Meeru Island Resort & Spa

Honest review

This hotel is a wonderful way to introduce your guests to the Maldives. A short boat ride after a long international flight will not tire young travelers, and it saves a decent amount of budget. There is room to roam on the island: Meeru is the second-largest island in the Maldives, measuring 1,200 by 350 m! After the 2020 renovation, the island gained a two-bedroom villa for a large family (2 adults + 3 children). The main restaurants are divided by guest age: families with children dine separately, which is very convenient for those holidaying as a couple. The hotel has a consistently strong rating and a large number of repeat visits: guests are loved here, and the team knows exactly what those who choose a large island with history truly value.

“This is one of the largest resorts in the Maldives, and it is often full even in low season. People love coming back, and they are greeted like long-awaited guests with ‘Welcome Back’ signs. The beach strip here is very long, with a perfect entry into the water. If you like, you can even set up volleyball nets and hold tournaments — the sand is soft and pure, comfortable to walk on barefoot while enjoying the natural beauty of the Maldives.”

The resort is on Meerufenfushi island in North Male Atoll, 36 km from Velana International Airport (Male). Nearest resorts: Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi 4*

One of the few resorts where the beach runs unbroken around the entire island. Excellent entry into the water, soft sand free of coral or shell fragments, and a gentle slope. The beach itself is quite wide, with a beautiful view of the open sea and no breakwaters. The hotel does not have a rich reef, but the island's superb beachline more than makes up for it.

Meeru opened as one of the very first resorts in the Maldives, back in 1978, and has undergone all its renovations on schedule, the last major one in 2020. Meeru's management understands perfectly that you must always keep up with the times: a dedicated app lets guests book any service on the island straight from their phone, without leaving their chair. At the same time, the hotel enjoys all the advantages of its long history: for example, sun umbrellas are not needed here — the many trees always provide natural shade.

The hotel is part of the Crown & Champa Resorts group, and guests are offered a comfortable air-conditioned lounge on arrival while waiting for their transfer to the island.
