Kandooma should be chosen for movement, not for silence. This is a resort of a world-famous chain in South Male Atoll, built for lively family holidays with children: a daily-refreshed events programme, a kids' club with workshops and sports contests.
The main practical point: snorkelling straight off the island won't work — the currents are too strong. Plan trips with the dive centre instead: the surrounding reefs suit beginners and interest experienced divers, and groups with certified instructors go out several times a day.
Surfers get their own invitation: several spots nearby catch some of the best waves in the Maldives.
For slower days there is a spa with massages and treatments, plus plenty of cruises and excursions.
Who it is for: families with children who want momentum, divers and surfers. If you dream of meditative quiet by your villa — look at other atolls.
