Eri Maldives (Ex.eriyadu Island Resort)

Honest review

A sensible choice for a first acquaintance with the Maldives: Eri Maldives (formerly Eriyadu Island Resort) stands on North Male Atoll, and getting there is easy — a regular boat transfer runs from Male international airport.

The island is tiny: about seven acres, and you can walk around it in some eight minutes. The advantage of that scale is that the beach, the restaurant and the reef are close at hand from anywhere; the drawback is just as clear — don't look for extensive infrastructure here.

The rooms are simple and snug, in keeping with the island: everything necessary is there, nothing extra. If designer interiors matter to you, this is not your format; if honest island life does, it is exactly that.

The main asset is the coral reef around the island, teeming with life: bring a mask and snorkel. Diving and water sports for the active; the pool, the spa and walks for the calm.

Who it suits: those who want a classic small Maldivian island without paying extra for gloss.
