If you are choosing the Maldives for snorkelling and diving rather than the sweep of the grounds, Dhawa Ihuru is a precise hit: divers have more than once named its house reef among the very best.
Right off the island lies a sunken ship — one of the popular dive sites. The on-site dive centre works with every level of PADI certification and goes out to sea both day and night.
The island is one of the smallest, easy to walk around; the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. The villas stand close together, but dense greenery and screening settle the question of privacy — an honest trade-off for compactness.
The chain is Singapore's Banyan Tree, which means attentive service by default; a neighbouring island of the same chain is open for visits — set aside half a day for it.
