Calm Maldivian tradition at a sensible price — Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is exactly that: beauty, seclusion and excellent service without pomp.
The island is mid-sized, with just 98 villas and a web of walking paths in the shade of coconut palms. The villas are traditional, with thatched roofs: not the most luxurious in the Maldives, let's be honest, but comfortable and impeccably finished; most stand on the beach.
A selection tip: ask for the western side of the island — the beach strip is wider there, and the evenings bring a stunning view of the sunset.
Baa Atoll, to which the resort belongs, is a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and that is no marketing line: around it are dive sites with magnificent coral gardens, reef sharks and barracudas, and at four spots nearby, in season (June to November), you can meet mantas and even whale sharks.
Dining is all-inclusive, and that is a stroke of luck: the food at Coco Palm is beyond all praise. A resort for couples and for anyone after the quiet, genuine Maldives.
