Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa

Honest review

If you are looking for the Maldivian balance of family, activity and a sensible budget, start your comparison with this resort on South Male Atoll.

The practical brief: the island is large and green, and a bicycle takes you around it in about ten minutes — room to roam for children, walks for adults. The beach is brilliant white, the lagoon big and turquoise; bear in mind it is shared with two neighbouring resorts of the same chain.

That neighbourhood is turned into a plus: the neighbours' restaurants are open to you as well, so dinners can be rotated without leaving the lagoon. The breakfasts themselves are substantial, the food varied and good.

Set one day aside for a trip to the separate picnic island — with swings, beach hammocks and a proper photo spot.

The bottom line: comfort, service and plenty of movement at a sane price — the formula that brings families here who see no point paying extra for a 'silence only' format.
