If you are choosing unhurried classic Dubai over a skyscraper, One & Only Royal Mirage is one of the first candidates. The main advice here: pick the right building of the three.
The Palace (5 floors, 221 rooms) is the central, most ceremonial part of the complex, in Arabian style. Arabian Court (167 rooms) sits in the middle temperamentally, with fountains and shaded walkways. For quiet, head to Residence & Spa: just 50 rooms over two floors, a library and its own pool opening straight onto the beach.
The beach is a strong suit: private, sandy, with a pier about a kilometre long; loungers, umbrellas, towels and mattresses are included in your stay. Planning a day in a beach tent — note that it comes free only to guests of Suite rooms; everyone else pays extra.
Logistics: 30 km from DXB, 40 km from DWC. A resort for couples and families who value garden and sea over the view from the fiftieth floor.
