A big green resort above the Andaman Sea: 75 acres of tropical gardens by Karon beach and 665 rooms in traditional Thai style. The scale is part of the pleasure — the grounds walk like a park.
Rooms come with a balcony or patio, a generous work area and designer bathrooms with a rain shower and a bath; the view is either the white sand and the sea or the garden. Suites add a minibar, a large sitting area and lounge-bar access.
The family mechanics are well thought out: children get a club, their own pool, a two-level waterslide and a games room; adults get an 18+ pool and a spa amid the greenery. Plus a gym with cardio and weights zones, a tennis court and squash.
From the restaurants, we suggest an evening in the room hung with traditional Thai art, the Italian classics — pizza, lasagne, pasta — and the steamed sea bass from the Asian menu with a view of the pool.
The location works for excursions: the Old Town, Chinatown, Wat Chalong — Phuket's most famous temple — and Patong next door for the nightlife. A dual-purpose resort: for the family and for the couple.
