Honest review
A calm base in Tangalle — one of the largest towns in Sri Lanka's south — for those who want to combine beach, surf and real Sri Lankan life all around.
Everything is close: about 5 minutes' walk to the sea, 10 minutes to the centre of Tangalle, with small shops, eateries and the bus station nearby. Among the sporting neighbours is the Bandula Surfing School.
The sandy beach has umbrellas and sun loungers, and when lying down palls — surfing, diving, canoeing and fishing, plus excursions around the area.
Do the logistics in advance: Mattala International Airport is 68 km away, Colombo's airport — 225 km. If you land in Colombo, the drive south is a journey in itself — allow several hours for it.
Who it suits: families and active travellers who care more about being near a town and the waves than about a fenced-off all-inclusive compound.
