Honest review
A case where honesty matters more than advertising: The Long Beach has fine grounds and rare quiet, but the swimming comes with caveats.
Start with the strengths. The resort stands in the south of Sri Lanka, right on the Indian Ocean, in Koggala — a young town without tourist crowds. The grounds are green and well kept, and the scale is substantial: 195 rooms, two pools, several bars and restaurants. For all that, the atmosphere is surprisingly serene.
Now the caveat: the ocean here is restless even in season, and strong waves are routine. For families with small children and older travellers this beach should be recommended with care: calm sea swimming may not happen. Fortunately, there are two pools.
Advice: consider this resort if the sea, for you, is a view, a sound and walks along the shore — and you are happy to do your swimming in the pool.
For lovers of seclusion and couples — anyone who prefers quiet Koggala to the big-name beach towns.
