A ready answer to the question of how to rent a piece of Sri Lanka just for your own people: The Beach House Mirissa can be taken over entirely — all six rooms.
The format is a beach villa: six rooms with ocean or garden views, a restaurant, and a compact pool with a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean. For a large family or a group of friends it is effectively a private house by the water.
It works for two as well: outsiders rarely wander onto the beach in front of the villa, and it is quiet and calm here. The rooms have the essentials, from air conditioning to a tea and coffee set.
Advice: set aside an evening for Mirissa harbour — no more than 10 minutes' drive away (around six kilometres), with boats leaving from there to watch dolphins and blue whales. The popular Mirissa beach, with its full infrastructure, is about three kilometres away.
For groups, family trips in your own circle, and couples who want peace without isolation.
