Honest review
Before you book, know this: Taj Bentota is under renovation. Fifty rooms are temporarily out of sale — the entire fifth floor and the adjacent rooms of wing B — and the main restaurant The Palms has moved into Sea View, where a dining area has been set up in the inner courtyard. The resort keeps working meanwhile: more than 50% of rooms and services remain available.
Why people still come: the setting along the velvet beach of Sri Lanka's south-west coast and a reputation built up over years — this is one of the region's best addresses, drawing visitors from around the world.
A practical tip: when booking, ask for a room away from the works and check the current restaurant arrangements — part of the usual service now runs on a temporary scheme.
An option for couples and families who choose proven classics by the ocean and take the ongoing refresh in their stride. All the more so since the point of the works is more comfortable rooms and restaurants: once finished, it promises to be more interesting still.
