Sun N Sea

Honest review

This is a modest hotel on the edge of Unawatuna Bay with a cozy, homely atmosphere. Its location deserves special mention. The hotel building stands on a rise, so the rooms and the restaurant enjoy a stunning view over the bay, and directly below the hotel is a snug sandy beach used mostly by those in the know. What is more, thanks to the panoramic views of the bay, Sri Lanka's sunsets look especially picturesque here: hotel guests can watch the sun literally sink into the ocean.

The hotel has only 10 rooms, so crowds, noise and bustle are unheard of. That said, do not expect dead silence either — the sound of the surf and of waves breaking against the rocks gives the hotel even more atmosphere.

At the same time, because it sits on the edge of the bay, outsiders rarely drop in, although the hotel's restaurant is popular along the coast, and the beach is almost entirely at the disposal of Sun N Sea's guests.

Another thing you need not worry about is the loud music of Unawatuna's discos: only faint echoes reach the hotel, and they are no bother at all.

Meanwhile, by tuk-tuk or even on foot it is easy to reach the local entertainment, as well as the little shops and stalls selling handmade goods by local artisans.

All in all, Sun N Sea is a 'sleep, eat, wash' kind of hotel — and it fulfills that mission with dignity. The hotel's infrastructure is modest, and there is no special entertainment here apart from the beach with its coral reef and the restaurant.
