Honest review
Choose this resort if your plan for the trip is not a closed territory but Unawatuna itself: the beach once named the best in the world by Discovery begins a few steps from the gate.
The logistics are unusually lucky: 20 metres to the Walle Devalaya temple, 15 minutes to Jungle Beach, 5 kilometres to the UNESCO-listed port of Galle and 110 km from Colombo airport.
We advise taking a bicycle — the surrounding stalls, cafes and shops are easiest to tour that way. On the water there is surfing, snorkelling, diving and fishing; excursions into the history and culture of the region are organised by the resort's staff.
The rooms are cosy and unpretentious: look at the options with a living area and a terrace or balcony — the views are of the garden, the town or the mountains.
In the evening there is a beach restaurant and bar with local and international dishes and a view of the temple; on request a barbecue will be set up for you.
The format suits young travellers and families who want movement and impressions: there is quiet in the resort's garden, but the main thing here is the life all around.
