The essentials of Riff Hikkaduwa fit into three facts: an ocean view from every room, Hikkaduwa's coral reef 1.5 km away, and a 145 km transfer from Colombo's international airport — about 2.5 hours on the road.
Start with the honest part: the road. Two and a half hours after a flight is noticeable, so plan your arrival so you don't meet the sunset in the car.
In return you get genuinely designer accommodation: minimalist architecture by Vinod Jayasinghe, Spanish marble on the floors, natural teak in the rooms and balconies. The sun, sand and sea concept is held without clutter — it is easy to slow down here and be with yourself.
The kitchen covers breakfasts and evenings alike: an international breakfast, a large à la carte menu of local, Western and Asian dishes, handmade pastries, good coffee and tea.
