Honest review
The three stars here describe the category, not the experience: on Sri Lanka's north-east coast this resort surprises with its scale — large, green, well-kept and shady grounds.
There is so much wildlife that the grounds work like a small national park: chipmunks, monkeys, squirrels, parrots, tropical birds. Underwater — rays, sea turtles and colourful fish, while 30 km offshore pass sperm whales, blue whales and dolphins.
The beach is a strong point: equally good for sunbathing and for swimming.
It is important to understand where you are going: there is almost no infrastructure around. In the village of the same name there are only a few cafés and small eateries serving seafood, little shops and stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables. Entertainment is strictly natural and aquatic: a trip to Pigeon Island, diving, snorkelling, surfing.
Take this option if you want a quiet beach holiday amid living nature — and expect neither shopping nor nightlife.
