Honest review
The main thing first: this is not a resort for lying by the pool. Koggala Beach is worth choosing in two cases — if you are coming to explore Sri Lanka and need the room only for sleeping, or if your format is an active ocean: runs along the water and surfing up to professional level.
The ocean here is the real thing: loud surf and high waves. Which is exactly why we advise families with children and lovers of flat calm and quiet to look at other options — as should anyone who needs developed infrastructure: here it is modest.
As a base for itineraries, though, it is convenient: small, green, well-kept grounds with an outdoor pool, a bar, a restaurant and a lounge zone. The rooms have air conditioning, a safe, a mini fridge and comfortable furniture, and every room looks onto the Indian Ocean.
The local fauna adds charm: curious chipmunks, geckos everywhere, and little crabs scuttling along the beach.
The verdict: an honest resort for a specific job — the whole of Sri Lanka plus waves, not beach classic.
