Honest review
The case where value for money is not a figure of speech: Cool Beach Hotel in Hikkaduwa stands on the first beach line, and its own sandy beach with a gentle entry and soft warm sand is literally ten metres away.
The building's architects built in its highlight: an ocean view opens from every room. Another gift of the location is quiet: despite the first line, it is calm here.
Nearby is a pier where fishermen sell the fresh catch — and it will be cooked for you on the spot. Do not miss it: freshly caught seafood is the main local genre. On site there is a pool and a restaurant of Asian and local cuisine, and the neighbourhood is full of restaurants, including the popular Simple Restaurant with excellent seafood.
For the active — diving, cycling and fishing; for everyone else — sunbathing ten metres from your room.
Bearings: the south coast of Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa, about 145 km from Colombo airport. An option for a calm beach holiday without a luxury price tag.
