Honest review
Tiny — just 16 rooms — a boutique resort at the entrance to Unawatuna, right on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Coco Bay bills itself as beachfront luxury and, to be fair, works hard to hold that standard.
The main asset is the spot itself: first line, a gradual slope into the water, no high waves and no undertow. For swimming and sunbathing, conditions are close to exemplary for southern Sri Lanka.
The second trump card is seclusion: the resort stands apart from the rest of the coastline's development and is buried in greenery.
Meanwhile, two of Unawatuna's best beaches are within walking distance, with their varied underwater life and sweeping panoramas: a ready-made itinerary for a couple of days.
An honest caveat: this is a format for slow, contemplative rest — demanding, active guests will get bored quickly. It is first and foremost for couples: quiet, the ocean on the doorstep and hardly anyone around.
