Advice for anyone choosing Bentota: look not only at the beach but at the river — it is the pairing of the two that makes this place special. Club Bentota occupies the spit dividing the Indian Ocean from the Bentota Ganga river; even the airport transfer ends with a scenic river crossing.
Book the water safari first: seeing the extraordinary flora and fauna of these parts is an essential point of the programme. After that, as you please: surfing, water skiing, catamaran, canoe, jet ski; for diving there is a centre nearby, and the staff will arrange the transfer.
A beach day here is the real thing: three kilometres of Paradise Beach with remarkably fine golden sand and clean water. After the sun — an herbal bath of lavender, jasmine, rosemary and mint, or a massage at the spa.
With children it is an easy choice: the restaurants have a children's menu, and vegetarians get their own section of the menu. Logistics: 63 km from Colombo, 99 km from the international airport. A resort for families and romantic couples drawn to a two-in-one Sri Lanka: ocean plus river.
