Let us set expectations straight away: this is a choice for an active, loud, cheerful holiday — and it should be taken knowingly for exactly that. Hikkaduwa lives at full tilt from dawn until deep into the night, and the resort sits in the thick of it.
What is here for you: a sandy beach among coral reefs, a warm ocean, snorkelling, diving and surfing. In the evening — cocktails on the shore, the clubs scattered along the coast, or the colourful local shops.
After an active day, look in at the spa: Balinese therapists work in both eastern and western techniques — honest therapy after the surf.
Plan the journey in advance: 132 km from Bandaranaike airport, 100 km from Colombo and another 10 minutes from Hikkaduwa town. Who we recommend it to: the young, groups of friends and couples after energy. Families with toddlers and lovers of quiet — probably not.
