Honest review
An intimate place in southern Sri Lanka that people come back to: the atmosphere is like staying with old friends. Quiet and homely; guests swap stories of the previous day over breakfast, and the staff carefully tend that family sense of comfort.
The main argument is Dalawella Beach, a minute's walk away: the reef takes the force out of the big waves, the entry is smooth and sandy, and turtles swim in almost every day — you can watch them, and feed them if you like. Bring snorkelling masks: besides the turtles, the reef is home to tropical fish.
Everything this area is visited for is close by: the famous Dalawella rope swing 50 metres away, Galle Fort 5 kilometres off, the turtle farm and Koggala Lake at 4, the Sri Yoga Shala centre 600 metres away. Unawatuna is a kilometre off; Unawatuna Beach is a 21-minute walk, Mihiripenna 4 minutes.
Logistics: Colombo international airport is 160 kilometres away — allow time for the transfer.
Who it's for: families with children, for the calm water and the turtles — and couples who want quiet instead of a noisy beach scene.
