A calm resort on Sri Lanka's east coast, in the scenic bay of Pasikuda — clear water, coral reefs and bright tropical fish.
'Anantaya' translates as 'endless', and the mood here matches: ocean to the horizon and no bustle. The project was designed by the Thai studio Nava Design Studios, so the architecture joins Thai motifs with Sri Lankan aesthetics — a rare and remarkably coherent combination.
The strongest argument for the rooms and villas is the spacious terraces with private pools: they work equally well for a family evening and for a romantic dinner for two. There is a spa with Balinese massages and rejuvenation treatments, a gym and water activities.
The one thing to weigh soberly is logistics: about 270 km by car from Bandaranaike airport, a drive that takes up a good part of the day. Plan your arrival so you are not on the road at night.
Who it suits: couples and families who want the quiet east coast and a private pool on the terrace, rather than the island's busy south-west.
