Imagine a place on the wild, unspoiled east coast of Mauritius. On one side, endless fields; on the other, a turquoise lagoon. A simple place where you can switch off from everything and reconnect with yourself. Such a hotel exists... and it's called Sunrise Attitude.
This adults-only hotel sits opposite the white-sand Belle Mare beach, which you reach by crossing the street. It is one of the best beaches in Mauritius, and the hotel is superbly positioned on this preserved stretch of coast.
Sunrise Attitude is committed to eco principles. The rooms are decorated with pieces by local artisans, and there is no mini-bar. Instead, guests can visit the hotel's Bulk Shop and stock up on tea, coffee and snacks in reusable glass jars.
There are two outdoor pools with sun loungers, umbrellas and swings. There is a pool bar, a games room, a street-food truck, plus a selection of bars and restaurants serving healthy, tasty cuisine with a wide choice of vegan dishes. A buffet breakfast is served daily at The Market restaurant, and a dine-around system lets guests choose between three restaurants on a half-board basis. Wherever possible, all products are sourced from local suppliers to keep the dishes fresh.
Sunrise Attitude has 145 air-conditioned rooms and 8 villas with a private pool. The hotel also has swim-up rooms, letting guests step straight from the bedroom into the pool. There are no TVs in the rooms and villas, as the hotel encourages guests to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with themselves.
Guests can book treatments at the POZ spa. The herbs and ingredients used in the spa products are 100% natural and locally grown. A range of health and wellbeing activities is also on offer, including creative workshops.
Activities include dinner with a local family and self-guided walking or cycling tours using the hotel's free mobile app. Guests can also explore the ocean on a glass-bottom boat or with snorkeling gear.
The Belle Mare Plage golf club is just a 5-minute drive away, and the towns of Trou d'Eau Douce and Flacq are 10 km away. Sunrise Attitude has parking spaces, but they cannot be reserved in advance.
