Salt of Palmar is Mauritius for those tired of interchangeable beach luxury: a boutique resort in a modern format, opened in 2018, for adult guests aged 16 and over only.
The concept here is a working one, not a marketing one: the creators invite you to combine a beach holiday with the culture and traditions of the locals, and they take ecological tourism seriously. There is no plastic — rooms have aluminium water bottles instead of cups — and nature here is looked after with care.
The food is a reason to come in itself: the resort has its own farm, and most dishes are made from natural produce grown nearby; breakfasts and dinners are à la carte, with a menu of the day every day. The level of the kitchen is very high.
The resort stands on the east coast, and that matters for your dates: it is most comfortable from September to May, while the summer months can be windy. The activity programmes are conveniently checked in the resort’s own phone app.
For adult couples and active travellers interested in Mauritius itself, not just the lagoon in front of the sunlounger.
